PTD on retail shelves … somewhere.
May 22, 2007
PTD Magazine is finally on retail shelves after a minor disaster with our stellar printing company, a quick vacation, and some fancy upgrades to the equipment in the office. I’ll be back-filling the blog with those tidbits, so make sure you swing by later for those details.
We overnighted our first 100 retail copies to our distributor last Friday. They will be providing us with a list of the stores they’ve distributed the magazine to this Thursday. I’m not quite sure why it takes a week, but I assume they have their reasons. Once that list is available, we’ll post it here as well as on the PTD Magazine site.
This week we’ll be soliciting a number of new distributors, which should help us shore up retail locations in New York City, L.A., and Chicago to name a few. The package they receive will include an introduction letter (I’ll post that this afternoon) as well as a shrink-wrapped, retail ready copy of PTD 305.
Ready, set, vacation!

With Peter at the helm of issue 306 (our annual retro issue), I’ve taken a week to spend some time with the family. We’ll be off to the Rocky Mountains, in search of fresh air and hot springs. The printer hasn’t shipped issue 305 yet, thank in part to our inability to count. I’ll probably be returning to the city on mid-vacation to pick them up.
Ah — vacation.
54 pages does not make a magazine.
May 10, 2007
I’m on vacation next week, so we’ve tried to get everything to the printer in record time. Unfortunately, that meant we weren’t paying enough attention to the final files, and sent a 54-page issue. This might not seem like a big deal at first (which is why we missed it), until you factor in the fact that each printed “page” in a magazine includes 4 magazine pages, folded.
54 does not take kindly to being divided by 4.
The printer called and asked where we wanted the two “blank pages” to go, and we immediately realized our n00b mistake. Up against the wall and facing a tight schedule, we opted to remove two pages from the print version and push out a 52-page issue.
PTD issue 305 now available for download

The digest issue of our flagship magazine is now on the servers. You can download the digest copy for free, or pick up a electronic subscription to receive the complete issue. Paying subscribers are our best friends, in case you didn’t know.
This issue will be the first retail issue available in bookstores in the Colorado area, so we’re doubly excited. More information on those details to follow.
I heart Intel

Adobe released Creative Suite 3 in the last few weeks, and it’s prompted me to upgrade to a fabulously huge 24-inch iMac. Not only does this bolster my screen real-estate (coupled with the 23″ cinema display), but it also runs CS3 like a champ. Thanks for the boost, Intel!
